Nikita Smidovich spent most of his career at the Russian diplomatic service as well as at the UN Secretariat, where he held a range of positions until his retirement in 2015.

From 2008 to 2015 he worked for the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs dealing with WMD non-proliferation (UNSCR 1540) and for the UN Secretary-General

Mechanism for investigation of alleged use of chemical and biological weapons. He served as Chief of Training at the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (on Iraq) from 2000 to 2008. He has been Deputy Director for Operations and Coordinator for Missile and Biological Weapons Issues at the UN Special Commission (on Iraq) from 1992 to 2000. He started his service at the Secretariat in 1992.

Nikita Smidovich joined the USSR Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1975 and has been Head of the Division of Chemical and Biological Weapons Issues from 1989 to 1991.

Graduated from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO-University) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
