PLENARY SESSION VII: Reducing Tensions on the Korean Peninsula: Possible Steps and the Role of Multilateral Diplomacy

Oleg BURMISTROV, Ambassador-at-Large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russian Federation


Amb. Oleg Burmistrov assumed the post of Ambassador-at-large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia on January 1, 2017. One of the topics in his jurisdiction is the crisis on the Korean peninsula. 

During his diplomatic career Amb. Burmistrov served in different capacities at the MFA Central Office as well as abroad. 2015-2016 – Deputy Director of the Second European Department at the MFA of Russia.

Amb. Burmistrov dedicated a considerable part of his career to the North American issues. He served as Minister-counsellor at the Russian Embassy in the United States (2011-2015). Prior to that he was Deputy Director of the Department of North America (2006-2011) and Head of Military-Political Division of the Department of North America (2004-2006) at the MFA.

From 2000 to 2004 Amb. Oleg Burmistrov worked for the Secretariat of the Deputy Foreign Minister G. Mamedov. 1998-1999 – Counsellor to the Department of Security and Disarmament (DVBR, currently Department of Nonproliferation and Arms Control, DNKV).

He started his diplomatic service in Russian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, where he worked from 1989 to 1992. In the Embassy he started his work as attaché and left Japan in 1992 in the rank of First Secretary. 

Graduated from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO-University) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
