RAJARAMAN Ramamurti, Emeritus Professor of Theoretical Physics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, India
Prof.
Rajaraman is co-chair of the International Panel on Fissile Materials. He
obtained his Ph.D. from Cornell
University in 1963 under
the supervision of Prof. Hans Bethe. He has taught at Cornell
University, the Institute for Advanced
Study at Princeton, the Indian Institute for Science, Harvard
University, M.I.T, Stanford University
and CERN. His physics research has spanned nuclear theory, elementary particle
physics, quantum field theory, statistical mechanics, solitons and quantum Hall
systems. In addition he has also been working on nuclear arms control. In
collaboration with colleagues at Princeton
University, he has worked on a variety
of nuclear issues in South Asia, including
de-alerting, early warning and missile defense, nuclear weapon accidents, etc. He has
studied in depth the Indo-US nuclear agreement. Finally he has made research on
