Gen. Pan joined the army in 1963 and worked in army headquarters for 20 years. He assumed the position of researcher, deputy director and director of a strategy institute at China's National Defense University after 1986 and was promoted to Major General in 1995. He retired in 2001 and kept on doing research about international strategies and military issues. Pan graduated from Zhongshan University and China's National Defense University. As an international strategy analyst, he wrote a lot of policy analysis reports and academic papers. Pan connected with academia widely. He was invited as a guest professor to American National Defense University (1987), Stanford University (1988) and Harvard University (19992000) to give lectures and do research. Now he's a member of Pugwath Conference.
