CONCURRENT SESSION 5: Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty (FMCT): How to Overcome Sensitivities and Make Progress

Ambassador Batsanov worked on the whole range of arms control, disarmament, non-proliferation and outer space-related issues in the Soviet MFA. In 1989-1993 was leading the Soviet, then Russian delegations to the Conference on Disarmament. Participated in a number of US-Soviet Ministerials and Summits, in numerous session of General Assembly and other UN bodies. Participated in a number of conferences to review the operation of various disarmament treaties (Review Conferences), such as NPT, BWC, and CWC. In Pugwash Amb. Batsanov is dealing with issues of nuclear disarmament, BMD, CTBT, Iranian nuclear file (Track 2 meetings), WMD Free Zone in the Middle East, multilateral disarmament machinery (CD, UNDC, First Committee). Particularly he is active in Track 2 diplomacy (Israel-Palestine, Iran-US). He is a Senior Adviser with the United Nations Inter-Regional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), involved in a range of projects, relating to counter-terrorism, illicit trafficking, CBRN risk mitigation and international crisis management. He is also a member of the International Advisory Board of the Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces.
