Mr. Shchukin started his academic activities in 1972 at the theoretical division of the Zababakhin Russian Federal Nuclear Center (VNIITF). From January 1994 till September 1996 he was the senior academic advisor of the Russian delegation to the Conference on Disarmament (CD). Since 2011 he has participated in the activities of the Nuclear Suppliers Group, connected with the systematic revision of checklists in the format of Dedicated Meetings of Technical Experts and has guided the activities of states' experts on ‘Weaponization'. Since 2009 he has occupied the position of the Head of the laboratory of nuclear export control at the Russian State Nuclear Corporation ‘Rosatom'.
