Mr. Ramaker holds Masters Degree in
Political Science, which he received from University of Amsterdam
in 1967. He joined Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1968. His
various diplomatic assignments during his career include the Counsellor, Deputy Head
of Delegation to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, Switzerland
(1983-1986); Minister-Plenipotentiary, Deputy Permanent Representative to the
United Nations in New York (1986-1990); Minister-Plenipotentiary and Deputy
Chief of Mission in Moscow, Russian Federation (1990-1994); Ambassador and
Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Conference on
Disarmament in Geneva, Switzerland (1994-1997); Chairman of Main Committee III
(peaceful uses of nuclear energy) of the 1995 NPT Review and Extension
Conference in New York; Chairman of the Nuclear Test Ban negotiations in Geneva
resulting, in September 1996,
in the conclusion of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban
Treaty (CTBT).
He also served as Permanent
Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
to the United Nations Organizations in Vienna,
(i.a. IAEA, CTBTO and UNIDO) in 1999-2004. He was a member of the Board of
Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna (2002-2004). In 1998 he received
‘Carnegie-Wateler Peace Price' of the Carnegie Foundation. In 2006 he became a
Member of the Advisory Council on International Affairs of the Netherlands
Government.
