PAIK Haksoon

Dr. Paik received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania in 1993, and was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard University from 1996 to 1997. He is a member of the South Korean government's Committee for the Development of Inter-Korean Relations, a policy advisor to South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, a policy advisor to South Korea's National Assembly's Committee on Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Unification, and also an advisor to the Kim Dae-jung Peace Center. He is the Chairman of the Policy Committee of the Korean Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation (KCRC), and the Vice President of the Korean Association of North Korean Studies. Dr. Paik was formerly the Chairman of the Unification Policy Committee of South Korea's Ministry of Unification, and the Chairman of the Ministry's Policy Evaluation Committee. He also served as the Executive Director of the Seoul-Washington Forum, a news commentator for the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), and the Vice President of the Korean Political Science Association. Dr. Paik has written extensively on North Korean politics, inter-Korean relations, Korean unification, and North Korea-U.S. relations including the North Korean nuclear issue. He is author of ‘The Power System of North Korea, 1945-2010: A Constructivist Interpretation'.
