Gen. Esin worked in the Soviet/Russian Defense Ministry's agencies, including as a chief of RVSN Main Staff. In 1998-2002 he served in the Administration of the Russian Federation Security Council, where his remit included the security of Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons. During the Cuban Missile Crisis was Engineer, Acting Chief Engineer of SS-4 Sandal Missile Regiment in the rank of Lieutenant/ Senior Lieutenant and deployed in Sagua La Grande, Santa Clara Province, Cuba, as part of 51st Missile Division. His research interests include nuclear disarmament, strategic stability and Russian military reform.
