Events

During 2012 CENESS organized and held 7 workshops and contributed to several expert meetings which gathered officials, diplomats, academia and nongovernmental experts to discuss different topics related to the nonproliferation, international cooperation of Russia in nuclear energy and disarmament issues. Among the mentioned workshops and meetings were:

December 3 - Moscow, Russia - The Center for Energy and Security Studies (CENESS) held the Round Table on 'Identifying Priorities for U.S.-Russia Nuclear Nonproliferation Cooperation
During the Second Obama Administration'. The discussion between Russian think-tank and academia experts was preceded with a presentations made by Julie Mills, Program Officer of the Office of Cooperative Threat Reduction from the U.S. Department of State and Anton Khlopkov, CENESS' Director. 

November 8 - Moscow, Russia - The Center for Energy and Security Studies (CENESS) held an informal meeting with Amb. Hossein Mousavian, a former top Iranian nuclear negotiator (2003-2005), former Head of Foreign Relations Committee of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran (SNSC) and former Foreign Policy Advisor to Secretary of SNSC. During the meeting Amb. Mousavian presented his recent book ‘The Iranian Nuclear Crisis: A Memoir' and answered to questions from Russian experts from think-tanks and foreign diplomats. More info

October 19 -  Moscow, Russia - Center for Energy and Security Studies (CENESS) organised a workshop on ‘Nuclear Nonproliferation: India's Perspective'. The keynote presentation was delivered by Amb. Sheel Kant Sharma, former Ambassador of India to IAEA and other international organizations in Vienna.

October 5 - Moscow, Russia. The Center for Energy and Security Studies (CENESS) held an informal meeting with Dr. Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iranian Peămanent Rĺpăesentative to IAEA. During the meeting guest the guest answered to questions from Russian experts from think-tanks and foreign diplomats.

May 3 - Moscow, Russia - CENESS held a workshop on ‘The 2012 Conference on the Establishment of a WMD-Free Zone in the Middle East: How to Make It a Reality'. The presentations were made by Bernd Kubbig, Project Director at the Peace Research Institute (Frankfurt), Sven-Eric Fikenscher, Research Fellow at Goethe University (Frankfurt), and Christian Weidlich, Project Coordinator at the Peace Research Institute (Frankfurt). 

April 27 - Moscow, Russia - CENESS held a workshop on ‘The North Korean Launch Failed: Now What?'. The presentation was made by Dr. Sig Hecker, co-director of the Center for International Security and Cooperation of Stanford University and an emeritus director of Los Alamos National Laboratory.The introductory remarks were made by CENESS Director Anton Khlopkov, who has returned from Pyongyang just recently. February 1 - Moscow, Russia - Center for Energy and Security Studies (CENESS) held a workshop on ‘The 2012 Conference on the Establishment of a WMD-Free Zone in the Middle East: Obstacles and Possible Outcomes'. The presentation was made by Amb. Sergey Batsanov, Director of the Geneva Office of Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, who also was leading the Soviet, then Russian delegations to the Conference on Disarmament in 1989-1993.
