Vitaly NAUMKIN
Mr. Vitaly Naumkin graduated with
distinction from Moscow
State University,
where he had studied Arab and Islamic history and Arabic language. He was also
trained at Cairo University
and American University
in Cairo in
1966-1967. He became one of the top Russian simultaneous interpreters of Arabic
and frequently worked for the top leaders of the state. In 1984 he became head
of Center for Arab Studies of the Institute
of Oriental Studies under Russian Academy of Sciences. For many years
Prof. Naumkin has been Editor-in-Chief of “Vostok-ORIENS” journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Prof. Naumkin
lectured at many universities abroad – in the U.S.,
Western Europe and the Arab world. In 1991
Naumkin was a visiting professor at the American
University in Cairo,
and in 2003 – a visiting professor at the University
of California in Berkeley. In 1991 Prof. Naumkin established
Center for Strategic and Political Studies that has acquired publicity as an
important public think tank in the field of conflict management and resolution,
second track diplomacy, international relations and politics. He is a member of
the Scientific Council under Security Council of Russia, member of the
Scientific-Consultative Council under Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia,
Chairman of the Scientific-Consultative Council of the Ministry of Justice.
