Agenda

The agenda of the 2019 MNC will cover all major nuclear challenges related to the three main pillars of the NPT – nonproliferation, disarmament, and peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Amongst the topics of the Conference agenda: the current state of nuclear relations between the largest nuclear powers – Russia and the US; how to preserve the Iran deal; ways of moving forward to dissolve the crisis on the Korean peninsula; how to protect the NPT in an ultimate effort to achieve a successful outcome of the 2020 Review Conference. Apart from these, broader regional issues such as strategic stability in South Asia, prospects of a Conference on the establishment of a WMDFZ in the Middle East, as well as topics of role and place of the civil nuclear energy will also be part of expert discussions at the 2019 MNC.

Since one of the central themes of discussions at the 2019 MNC is the situation on the Korean peninsula, a variety of topics within this issue is expected to be on the agenda of the Conference, such as: defining term of ‘denuclearization of the Korean peninsula', security guarantees as part of the denuclearization process, the CTBT, role of sanctions in nonproliferation.

It is also planned that a special panel of parliamentarians on future of arms control will be held as part of the 2019 MNC.

A detailed draft agenda of the Conference will be available on this page in October 2019.
